eSoft InstaGate Racks Up More Awards with 5 Stars from IT PRO

Broomfield, Colo. – 15 July 2010 – eSoft, Inc., a leading network security company that provides integrated Internet security solutions, announced today that IT PRO, the UK's most comprehensive enterprise IT news and reviews site, has awarded eSoft five stars in a review of its InstaGate 806 security gateway.

IT PRO’s Dave Mitchell notes in his review that he was impressed by the InstaGate’s ease of use and cost-effectiveness, as well as by the strong performance of eSoft’s own security services, which are incorporated within the product. In his article, Mitchell writes, “eSoft stands out from the competition for a number of reasons. Rather than amalgamate different components from other vendors such as anti-virus and web filtering, eSoft’s solutions are all home grown. Mitchell tested the InstaGate’s numerous features, noting the following observations in his article:

• Secure web filtering:
• “eSoft’s SiteFilter URL filtering service offers more than 50 categories to block or allow and worked very well during testing. We blocked the games and gambling categories and gave up trying to access online bingo and poker sites after fifty attempts.”
• “We could easily block access to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and eSoft offers a handy web site classification tool.”
• Spam filtering: “Using the default scoring system we calculated a 98 per cent anti-spam success rate with only a very small number of false positives showing the 806 working well straight from the box. The SpamFilter component also incorporates a learning phase [to increase detection rates].”
• Intrusion prevention: “For the IPS feature you enter address ranges and networks that you want it to protect and also block IM and P2P traffic if required. This also offers options to protect your web and mail servers and will automatically create protection policies for each one.”

Mitchell also made some general remarks about the InstaGate appliance, including:

• Ease of deployment: “During testing we found the InstaGate 806 easy enough to deploy and capable of offering a complete gateway security solution.”
• Cost-effective: “The Web ThreatPak looks very cost-effective as for less than two grand a year you can have gateway anti-virus scanning, IPS, user authentication, policy based web content filtering, web caching and IM and P2P app controls.”
• Web interface: “We found the web interface very intuitive.”
• Overview of threats: “The ThreatMonitor home page is capable of providing a wealth of information about the various functions.”
