Botnet Detection

Bots are a real problem on networks today -- but most administrators are completely unaware of the problem. A bot is a computer infected with a type of malicious software that attempts to remain hidden on a computer for as long as possible. Infected computers are controlled by hackers who use networks of bots, called bot armies or botnets, to attack other computers, send spam, send phishing attacks, and more.

Bots are extremely prevalent in contemporary computer networks with millions of active infected computers worldwide. Even large enterprises are caught with bots on their network by computer security companies like eSoft that monitor the sources of spam and other attacks. A small business can have all of their mail blacklisted on the Internet because one computer is unknowingly infected with a bot, but doesn't show any symptoms of having malicious software on the system.

Gateway Detection

Detecting bot infections at the gateway is sometimes the only way for detection as the typical bot disables local desktop antivirus software. By detecting unusual amounts of mail, "command and control" directions from bot herders, and communications to known bad servers, eSoft helps businesses to identify this class of malware on their networks and to eradicate it before any real harm can happen.
