SiteFilter® SDK Integration for OEM

Overview

eSoft offers flexible implementation options including appliance-based, cloud-based and service provider options. eSoft offers a number of integration options for OEMs including a high speed, low latency SDK for looking up URL categorizations on appliances, and an easy-to-implement, light-weight "in-the-cloud" option for appliances with limited disk space.

eSoft also offer an industry exclusive — the ability to team a local, high-performance URL database with real-time "cloud-based" lookup and dynamic classification.

"In-The-Cloud"

SiteFilter is also available as a "Cloud-Based" implementation, ideal for Flash-based appliances with limited or no hard-drive capacity. A simple thin-client API that utilizes the DNS protocol may be implemented that enables rapid, real-time URL look-ups to eSoft's hosted SiteFilter database. Upon receiving a URL look-up request, eSoft returns URL category values using lightweight UDP packets that take advantage of built-in Internet-wide caching mechanisms so you can deliver the maximum protection at the lowest cost to your customer. The most frequently visited URLs can be stored in the cache on the local appliance to ensure millisecond response times for requests of the most popular websites.

The datacenter with the SiteFilter database may be hosted by the OEM partner, or may be hosted by eSoft and "branded" under the OEM's name.

On-Disk

The SiteFilter Engine, available as part of the SDK, provides a high performance and scalable implementation for hard drive-based appliances. URLs are classified on a granular level and the API is optimized to identify and return the most appropriate categories for different path and subdomain combinations on the same site. The SiteFilter engine manages URL normalization, incremental local database updates, real-time DIA look-ups, and custom URL categorizations or overrides. eSoft's proprietary database structure minimzes the memory footprint and hard drive touches.

The SiteFilter API is designed for easy integration into existing appliances with interfaces available in C, C++, Perl, Java and other languages supported by SWIG.

Hybrid On-Disk and "In-The-Cloud"

eSoft is the only OEM provider of web filtering technology to have a built-in blend of an on-disk database and instantaneous lookup. This allows eSoft to provide live updates for new websites, phishing sites, anonymizers, and other sites that are up and running for only a few hours to a day. eSoft's SDK automatically handles the real-time lookup of new websites and if this is the first time eSoft has seen that website, it will be categorized immediately for quick deployment to all eSoft customers.

License Enforcement

SiteFilter provides flexible license enforcement options for OEM partners. Licenses may be enforced on an individual basis, as well as for evaluations and trials.
