Connect to the Serial Console Port via PuTTY
New versions of Windows and non-Windows computers do not have Hyperterminal to access the console interface on our units. Fortunately a free alternative is available. PuTTY or KiTTY have the ability to connect to a device via serial connection just like Hyperterminal.
For the purposes of this guide the images and wording are from KiTTY. PuTTY is almost identical to KiTTY so what you see here will be virtually the same in either program.
Open the KiTTY program.
- Change the "Connection type" to Serial.
From the "Category" menu on the left of the screen, click Serial.
"Serial line to connect to" will stay as the default COM1 unless you know for certain that you need to use a different port.
Set the following configuration options:
- Speed (baud) - 115200
- Data bits - 8
- Stop bits - 1
- Parity - None
- Flow Control - None
Finally, click Open.
