Disabling NAT
Overview
The InstaGate product line now offers the ability to disable Network Address Translation (NAT). Once NAT is disabled all computers on the local network (LAN) will have a public, Internet routeable IP address. By disabling NAT you are not reducing the effectiveness of the InstaGate firewall.
Configuration
To enable or disable NAT, click on Network -> ISP Settings (WAN) in the web interface. Under "Network Address Translation" uncheck the Use Network Address Translation (NAT) (Recommended) checkbox, which is enabled by default.
Troubleshooting
Since the InstaGate product line previously did not offer the option to disable NAT, most existing setups will be configured using private, non-routable networks such as 10.X.X.X or 192.168.X.X. If NAT is disabled the computers on the local network will need to be configured with public, routeable IP addresses. A computer with a private address in an environment where NAT is disabled will not be able to contact anything on the Internet. With NAT disabled it will be necessary to have a public IP address for each device that will be contacting the Internet directly.
