SpamFilter - Automatic Whitelist

Overview

When Automatic Whitelist Detection is enabled, any outgoing message creates an address-level whitelist entry between the source and destination addresses. Any mail returning from that address would then be whitelisted. These whitelist entries happen on a user by user basis and do not apply globally.

For example, suppose user@domain.com sends a message to someuser@somedomain.com. When someuser@somedomain.com sends a message back to user@domain.com, the message will be whitelisted. However, if someuser@somedomain.com sends a message to differentuser@domain.com, the message will not be whitelisted.

Configuration

Automatic whitelist can be enabled or disabled from SpamFilter Settings page. Simply check the box labeled Automatic Whitelist Detection to enable this feature. Click Apply to save your changes.

The automatic whitelist is maintained separately from the user's manual whitelist. Entries have a timestamp of the last time they are used (either sent or received) and deleted if they have not been used for over 120 days. The automatic whitelist can be managed from the SpamFilter Whitelist form by clicking the Automatic button.

Troubleshooting

If an email address is not being auto whitelisted as it should be, verify that the email client is configured to send through the unit in question. Only email going through the unit will be automatically whitelisted.

If a message is not getting whitelisted after being added to the auto whitelist, verify the whitelist entry has been created correctly, and that it is being sent to the correct user. Remember the automatic whitelist applies on a user by user basis.
