SpamFilter - Language Scoring

Overview

SpamFilter can look for specific allowed language types and adjust the Spam score for languages that are not allowed. If a language that is not allowed passes through the SpamFilter, the Spam score will be increased, thereby increasing the likelihood that it is flagged as Spam. This setting will be disabled by default.

Configuration

In the User Interface, click on Settings under the SpamFilter menu. Click on Languages to reveal the various language options. Check the enabled box next to detection to enable the feature.
By default, the allowed languages will be set to 'most common'. This will allow most languages without additional scoring. To change the allowed languages, select the 'custom' option and check any languages you wish to allow.

Troubleshooting

Before enabling this feature, please consider your organizational environment. If you expect international mail, you may have to adjust the allowed languages accordingly.

Language detection is a memory intensive process and may cause high load on systems scanning large volumes of email. If a unit is experiencing high load, try disabling this feature to ease the load on the system.

When using Language scoring in conjunction with Historical Averaging or Bayesian Filtering, be sure not to set the scores to extremes. This can create a Historical Averaging or Bayesian Filtering database that will cause messages to be scored incorrectly. The recommended score of 2.8 is a very effective score which will not cause a high enough score for the message to be rejected or the databases to be incorrectly skewed.
