Threatwall Installation Guide

Overview

This document outlines the Setup Wizard and  how to install the eSoft Threatwall.

Installation

  1. The ThreatWall has the ability to automatically obtain an IP address from your DHCP Server and will attempt to do so as soon as it is connected to your network.
    • If you are currently using DHCP on your network:
      1. Determine the IP address that has been assigned to the Threatwall.
        • Your DHCP server should have a table of current DHCP leases
        • You can view the current IP address assigned to the ThreatWall by connecting to the Serial Console, or by looking at the LCD panel(if available) on the front of the unit
      2. Open a web browser and go to https://ipaddress, where ipaddress is the IP address assigned to the Threatwall
    • If you are not using DHCP on your network:
      1. Assign you PC or laptop an IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet
      2. Connect that computer to the LAN port on the Threatwall
      3. Open a web browser and go to https://192.168.1.1

  2. Select the language you wish to view the Web Interface in and then click the Next button.

  3. Read the EULA, and then click Accept to continue.

  4. The Wizard will now perform two network tests, which check for the presence of:

    • A Network Time Protocol (NTP) server
    • An upstream web proxy

  5. During this phase of the setup process, you will:

    • Set the administrator email address
    • Set IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway IP Address
    • Set administrator password
    • Set Time Zone and System Time

  6. Click Next to continue

  7. The unit will then verify connectivity to the Internet and eSoft's servers. In order to perform these tests the Threatwall will need outbound access  via ICMP, HTTPS (TCP 443), and SSH (TCP 22):

    • Test default route
    • Test gateway access
    • Test DNS server access
    • Test access to SoftPak Director

  8. Next is product registration and activation.

    • Enter the auto-generated license key exactly as it is shown (this number IS case sensitive).
    • Enter billing and administrative contact information
    • You may subscribe to mailing lists for product updates/announcements

  9. Click Next to continue

  10. Once the ThreatWall has been properly registered, it will automatically begin downloading and installing the newest firmware.
