This document explains how to install the eSoft Virtual InstaGate. Included are links to instructions for installing in different virtual environments and a link for how to install SoftPaks.
After you have downloaded the Virtual InstaGate .zip file, extract all files and then double-click the .ovf to start the installation.
VirtualBox reads the file and sets up a Virtual machine similar to what is shown below
Clicking Finish, will start the import process.
If you get the warning about one or more devices not being available click Check.
You may see more than one device listed under the “Hard Disks” tab, the disk we are looking for should have a name similar to the name of the ovf file you are installing from.
A successful install will result in a screen similar to what is shown below.
After you have downloaded the Virtual InstaGate vmx.zip file, extract all files.
Log into VMWare Web Access.
Once logged in select Virtual Machine at the top of the screen.
Click Add Virtual Machine to Inventory.
Navigate to where you saved the vmx file you wish to use. Click OK.
You should now see a new machine listed in Inventory. Click to select it to view the configuration and settings for the virtual machine.
Click the Console tab to view the InstaGate's console interface. If this is your first time using VMWare Server you may need to install the Remote Console Plug-In. The install link is listed on the screen for you.
Run through the short Setup Wizard.
Once complete the console window should look like the image below. Click anywhere in the window to activate the console plug-in.
A successful install will result in a screen similar to what is shown below.
After you have downloaded the Virtual InstaGate ovf.zip file, extract all files.
Log into vSphere.
Once logged in select File at the top of the screen. Click Deploy OVF Template....
Enter the address for the location of the OVF file. Click Next.
You should now see a detail list of the content in the ovf file. Click Next.
Specify a name and where in Inventory to install the virtual machine. Click Next.
Select a Datastore. Click Next.
Specifiy which disk format to use. Click Next.
Select which network in Inventory to map the ovf networking to.
NOTE: The Virtual InstaGate requires at least two network interfaces to work as a proper firewall. If your current virtual server does not have two interfaces you need to add another before completing the installation of the Virtual InstaGate.
Click Next.
A Summary of the config options selected is shown. Click Finish.
Power on the new machine and click the "Console" tab.
A successful install will result in a screen similar to what is shown below.
Pre-Configuration
Once the InstaGate has finished booting you will get the console window shown below.
In most cases the default IP address assigned the unit will not work with the current network scheme. Click inside the console widow and, if prompted, click the Capture button. Then press the [spacebar] on your keyboard.
Press [ENTER] on your keyboard to select "Setup Network".
Using the [BACKSPACE] key on your keyboard, remove the current IP address
Enter the address you wish to assign the unit.
Press the [TAB] key on your keyboard.
Using the up or down arrow keys change the subnet mask to match your current network.
Press the [TAB] key.
Enter the gateway address you wish to assign the unit.
Press the [TAB] key.
Press [ENTER] again to select "OK".
Using a Web browser, like Internet Explorer, try accessing the web interface for the InstaGate. The address should look like https://[ipaddress]:8001, where [ipaddress] is the address you assigned the unit in the previous step.
Setup Wizard
Just like the hardware equivalent, the first time the Virtual InstaGate is accessed you will be taken directly into the Setup Wizard.
Read the EULA, and then click Accept to continue.
Next is Registration.
Click Next to continue.
During this phase of the setup process, you will:
Set the host name
Set Time Zone and System Time
Click Next to continue.
This step establishes administrative accounts and passwords:
Enable and create Local Administrators
Specify a Remote Administrator email address
Set the "admin" user password
Click Next to continue.
Next is Internet Connectivity.
Click Next to continue.
You have the option to run connection diagnostics.
The diagnostics will test connectivity to the following addresses specified in the Connection Settings:
WAN IP Address
Gateway IP Address
Primary DNS Server Address
www.esoft.com
Click Next to continue.
Click Done to complete the Setup Wizard and begin downloading firmware updates.
