Virtual Threatwall Installation Guide
Overview
This document explains how to install the eSoft Virtual Threatwall. Included are links to instructions for installing in different virtual environments and a link for how to install SoftPaks.
Installation
Pre-Configuration
Once the Threatwall has finished booting you will get the console window shown below.
-
In most cases the default IP address assigned the unit will not work with the current network scheme. Click inside the console widow and, if prompted, click the Capture button. Then press the [SPACEBAR] on your keyboard.
-
Press [ENTER] on your keyboard to select "Setup Network".
- Using the [BACKSPACE] key on your keyboard, remove the current IP address
- Enter the address you wish to assign the unit.
- Press the [TAB] key on your keyboard.
- Using the up or down arrow keys change the subnet mask to match your current network.
- Press the [TAB] key.
- Enter the gateway address you wish to assign the unit.
- Press the [TAB] key.
-
Press [ENTER] again to select "OK".
- Using a Web browser, like Internet Explorer, try accessing the web interface for the Threatwall. The address should look like https://[ipaddress], where [ipaddress] is the address you assigned the unit in the previous step.
Setup Wizard
Just like the hardware equivalent, the first time the Virtual Threatwall is accessed you will be taken directly into the Setup Wizard.
-
Read the EULA, and then click Accept to continue.
-
The Wizard will now perform two network tests, which check for the presence of:
- A Network Time Protocol (NTP) server
-
An upstream web proxy
-
During this phase of the setup process, you will:
- Set the administrator email address
- Set subnet mask and gateway options if the IP was changed from the default 192.168.1.1.
- Set administrator password.
-
Set Time Zone and System Time
-
Click Next to continue
-
The unit will then perform network diagnostics on your network:
- Test default route
- Test gateway access
- Test DNS server access
-
Test access to SoftPak Director
-
Next is product registration and activation. This is where the Virtual Threatwall will get a Serial Number.
- Enter the auto-generated license key exactly as it is shown (this number IS case sensitive).
- Enter billing and administrative contact information
-
You may subscribe to mailing lists for product updates/announcements
-
Click Next to continue
-
Once the ThreatWall has been properly registered, it will automatically begin downloading and installing the newest firmware.
