ThreatWall Release Notes - DNS Server
DNS SERVER UPDATE RELEASE NOTESVersion Number: 5.0.20090824In this update, there are fixes for various support issues as well as base system updates. In addition, this update provides the infrastructure to allow for the DNS Server SoftPak. This is an add-on that allows the unit to function as a DNS Server. Reference the DNS Server section of this article and related articles for more information on this new feature.

Gateway Anti-Virus - ThreatWall - All Models- Added more new Windows Update domains to the Custom Destination Rules to allow Windows Update through the AV scanning process.
- Added virus database verification to ensure the correct amount of AV definitions are loaded. Resolves a system load issue where additional virus definitions could be loaded.
SpamFilter - ThreatWall - All Models- Updated whitelist matching to resolve issues with distribution lists and emails received in the same connection.
Web Security - ThreatWall - All Models- Fixes issues connecting to Active Directory for Remote Authentication under certain conditions.

Base System Software - ThreatWall - All Models- Updated the user interface to correct a timeout issue which caused some pages, notably the Web and Email ThreatMonitor tabs, to not load correctly.

July 7, 2009 - Version 5.0.20090622
Base System Software - ThreatWall - All Models- The Japanese localization has been updated.
- Removed a PHP memory limit on the restore page, which caused problems with backups containing a large number of files.
- The Help menus and links work properly now with Internet Explorer.
- Updated user interface to prevent a new denial-of-service attack affecting HTTP servers.
Complete Mail Server - ThreatWall - All Models- Problems with the email footers being attached to outgoing messages have been resolved.
Address Verification - ThreatWall - All Models- Changed the address verification settings page to provide more clear descriptions of the various settings.
- In Mail Relay mode you can specify a separate IP address for the LDAP server under Address Verification. Previously this address was fixed to use the Incoming Email Server IP address.
- Made changes to allow for more flexibility in LDAP or Fixed Address list matching. Specifically, you can now configure address verification to ignore or enforce domain matching.
SpamFilter - ThreatWall - All Models- SpamFilter Custom Rules will now work for the Japanese language.
- The 127.0.0.1 address can no longer be whitelisted from Quarantine Notifications. This affects only Multi-drop, Mirrored, Mailbagging, and ETRN Mail Server modes
- It is no longer possible to add identical entries on both the whitelist and blacklist.
- If the special * domain is specified as the mail domain, whitelist and blacklist addresses are now properly handled.
- Being logged into the administrative user interface will no longer interfere with the functionality of SpamFilter or Content Filter quarantine notifications.
Email Content Filter - ThreatWall - All Models- The Subject header is now considered when doing keyword matching.
Web Security - ThreatWall - All Models- When the IP address is changed, the Web Security block page is now updated with the appropriate LAN configuration changes.
Intrusion Prevention - ThreatWall - All Models- Intrusion Prevention now starts properly when a rule's threshold is modified.
***DNS SERVER AND OTHER NEW FEATURES***
The following new features are available with this release. The DNS Server SoftPak is an additional softpak available through the SoftPak Director. Each of these features is discussed briefly below.
DNS Server
The new DNS Server SoftPak allows you to manage domains and their records. The DNS management forms are located under Network, DNS. Some features of the DNS Server SoftPak include:
- Management Interfaces - Simple or Full Configuration
- Domain Access Control List - Control the networks allowed to transfer
- Notification Settings - Controls which secondary servers to notify after domain records have changed
Log Settings
The Log Settings feature, previously only available for the ThreatWall, has been added to the ThreatWall under the System menu. These settings provide the following:
- Longer local log retention beyond the default 7 days.
- Ability to Enable and Disable the various local logs.
- Enable remote syslogging for the available logging streams, including WELF for Email and Web Proxy.
SpamFilter Language Scoring
You can optionally configure SpamFilter to determine the language of the message. If the language is not in the allowed list, an extra score will be added to the message.
To access this new feature, go to SpamFilter, Settings, and click the Language button. By default this feature is disabled.
